Kahoot is a game-based platform for teachers to review concepts and make learning fun for your students for free! Kahoot was developed by a professor at the Norwegian University of Technology and Science. To sign up for a free account, go to https://kahoot.com and sign up to use this tool. There is also an iOS and Android app which allows you to play or challenge friends.
There are four options of games:
- QUIZ is a multiple choice game.
- The option of JUMBLE has students place the answers in a correct order.
- The survey option is a multiple choice game but there are not points involved because there are no correct answers.
- The discussion option is a one word survey.
Kahoot has an extensive library with 30 million Kahoots. As people create Kahoots, they can be shared by setting it up as a public Kahoot or saved for private use only. It is very likely that no matter what your subject or area an existing Kahoot may be out there!
Enter questions, answers, and the correct answer(s). You may choose to turn off the point value and adjust the time limit. Pictures and video can be added. The questions are displayed on a projector in front of a classroom and students use web-enabled device. After completing the game, a unique PIN will be developed so students can join a game. Students log in using the pin and create a nickname. If they select an inappropriate nickname, the teacher has the option of clicking the nickname to remove the player. The questions are displayed and students select their answer. Points are awarded based on the speed of the correct answer. After the end of the game, the teacher has the option to save results and upload them as an excel file or download results to google drive
The results will allow you to see each student and how they answered each question. There is also a breakdown for each question and a list of raw data. This is great source for FORMATIVE data.
NO 1 to 1 Computers? If everyone does not have a computer, students can write their answer on a whiteboard (use the shapes from the program (red triangle, blue diamond, yellow circle, and green square). The teacher starts the game as usual and logs into a device (such as a cell phone) as a student. Project the game as usual, and have students display their answers.
